The Buyer will be responsible for evaluation, selection and purchasing of all merchandise in the categories for which he/she has responsibility. This candidate must have a solid understanding of our guests needs and market trends to exceed sales goals. They will partner with other internal departments such as planning, social media, marketing, store operations, product development and visual merchandising to execute overall strategies. In addition to their roles and responsibilities, the Buyer will also be responsible for leading and developing any Associate Buyers, Assistant Buyers, and Senior Assistant Buyers within in their department.

  • Responsible for building, creating & managing merchandise assortments and business plans that align with market and consumer trends. Assortment creation includes selecting and developing merchandise by considering quality, sourcing, timing, delivery, mix, and price.
  • Manage entire product lifecycle from creation, tracking of the purchase orders, samples, merchandising in store, to markdowns and discards.
  • Analyze weekly sales and item performance to find opportunities and strategies to drive sales and margin.
  • Ability to create and pull reports to fully analyze your business and make decisions using analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgement that enhance departmental performance.
  • Demonstrate highly effective critical thinking skills. Apply an understanding of the business and maintain a company-wide perspective.
  • Drive expansion of the category and create exclusive products.
  • Travel to store locations to review product mix, gather feedback, and identify opportunities to improve business.
  • Travel to visit vendors and attend trade shows to grow and maintain professional relationships with external partners, as well as gain insight on new trends and opportunities.
  • Partner with planning counterparts to manage the OTB and to identify opportunities in style count, sales goals, and inventory flow.
  • Responsible for managing and leading a high-performance team. You are responsible for providing leadership and guidance to all your team members, to identify their talents, improvement areas, goals and provide developmental opportunities to enhance their contribution to the company’s success.


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and/up to 4-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Associate Buyer duties.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills to grow a business.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership ability and prior management experience.
  • Strong ability to be a self-starter and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong collaboration skills to partner with cross-functional teams.
  • Able to develop, plan, present and execute strategies.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically.
