Responsibilities

Summary:  This position is responsible for developing a Logistic Network that provides on-time and cost effective deliveries for all internal and external shipments at the best price possible for the company’s transportation needs. The transportation manager is expected to drive process improvement and operational efficiency to best position us for successful execution of the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.

  • Manage the transportation operations that guarantee on-time store deliveries across multiple businesses as well as providing domestic transportation and planning to ensure on-time delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Develop new transportation solutions, negotiate and oversee contract agreements with carriers and service providers, and manage critical transportation services throughout the supply chain.
  • Assist with freight pay processing and financial month end reconciliation to ensure accurate accruals processing.
  • Add or replace carriers and service providers as necessary to support company growth and optimize transportation costs.
  • Manage the processing of all company freight claims for cargo loss, damage or concealed loss and damage claims, collections and settlements.
  • Maintain carton tracking and supply chain visibility throughout the season by publishing real-time accurate reporting to the business as a whole.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce freight expense by conducting team meetings, introducing new methods and strategies and analysis to improve overall department processes.
  • Spearhead streamlined reporting and improved daily processes to more efficiently run the transportation department.

 

Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of carrier tariffs, rules / regulations, freight classification, pricing structures. Experience with LTL and pool distribution.
  • Proven management ability.
  • Proven history of accurate reporting both detailed and high level
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong business sense and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent communication, computer and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • Strong leadership abilities.

Education and/or Experience:                

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; and/or Transportation /Logistics certification, and a minimum of 5 years working in the Transportation field.

Computer Skills:

Advanced MS Excel, Access, Word and Outlook abilities. Preferred experience with Power BI or comparable program(s).

 

Other Skills and Abilities:    

  • Knowledge of/and experience in a Distribution or Fulfillment Center.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and solutions using well organized communication to all levels in the building and across the organization
  • Flexible, team player who can add value as a leader and mentor to members of the team.
