POSITION SUMMARY

Packaging Designer Job Description

Seeking a multi-talented, full-time freelance Graphic Designer with a track record of creating visually pleasing and cohesive graphics for packaging and signage. Must have a firm understanding of the creative process. This position will focus on packaging layout, photo retouching, signage design, and retail presentations. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal/written skills, the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects, take direction well, be detail oriented, and can be assertive yet professional.  And most importantly have a killer design portfolio! Photography, illustration, and a passion for Halloween and pop-culture a plus.

 

 Primary Job Duties:

  • Exceptional typography and composition skills.
  • Experience in photo retouching and photo clipping.
  • Prepare art files for release to printers or developers as well as knowing appropriate file type for the medium.
  • Ability to layout, design and organize packaging mechanicals by following a style guide.
  • Create packaging solutions that could drive the look for in-store point-of-purchase, advertising and other varied print/digital based consumer collateral needs.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly with members of the creative, marketing, and product teams to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to translate ideas into creative visual presentation and design solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with flexibility to change direction quickly based on business needs.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a four-year degree in Graphic Design or related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum five-years of experience with a focus on packaging design and layout.
  • Proficiency in all applicable MAC software (Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office).
  • Extensive experience in Photoshop and retouching.
  • Experience working with licensed properties and style guides.
  • Understanding of 3-D rendering process and programs.
  • Firm knowledge of the printing process. Capable of taking design from concept to print.
  • Fundamental knowledge of packaging substrates and package types, including: clamshells, blister packs, bags, corrugated primary cartons, folding cartons, header/insert cards, shippers and internal protective packaging.
  • Organizational skills, aggressive drive for performance, and extremely high levels of personal accountability are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Have a sense of urgency for critical deadlines and an ability to reprioritize quickly.
