Responsibilities

The Payroll Tax Supervisor will oversee all facets of a multi-jurisdictional, payroll tax process.  The successful candidate will ensure that work locations are researched and set up in systems, as required, and all associates hired or rehired are coded accurately for federal, state and local jurisdictional withholdings in compliance with governmental regulations. Additionally, the candidate will supervise, provide guidance and support team members to ensure a successful payroll tax operation within the department.

  • Oversee the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual workflow as it relates to tax processes including establishing accounts with new taxing jurisdictions, new jurisdiction set-up with ADP, tax movements, relocation gross-ups, auto allowance updates and amendment processing
  • Organize training for specialists and analysts involved in the day-to-day payroll tax research and coding process
  • Oversee agency tax notice issues and escalate for resolution
  • Coordinate Payroll Quarter-End and Year-End review process including accurate T4 & W2 issuance
  • Maintain the Tax Criteria Log on a daily basis
  • Responsible for one of the three Home Office pay group payrolls
  • Assist Payroll Manager with application updates, enhancements and implementations as related to the payroll tax process
  • Assist with ad-hoc Payroll Report writing to support the tax process, audit requests and general reporting requests coming from other departments
  • Oversee Payroll State Allocation, Annual Worker's Compensation audit processes, along with the quarterly, semi-annual and annual filings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, along with one to two years of supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing and multi-state and locality taxation
  • Expert with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient with Payroll/HR software systems, ADP a plus
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle high volume customer service requests
  • Experience with Canadian Payroll processing a plus
