Responsibilities

The Sr. SQL Developer will be an important part of a team that provides analysis and support of Spencer’s merchandising applications. Spencer’s and Spirit Halloween leverage multiple merchandising systems which are connected through a network of integrations that interface with enterprise applications across the entire business. The role of the Sr. SQL Developer will be to apply their skill set to assist the merchant and IT teams in ensuring the merchandise systems are functioning at peak performance. The Sr. SQL Developer will collaborate with business partners, database administrators, application architects, application developers, project managers and other internal and external technical resources to deliver enhancements to existing systems and the implementation of new systems to meet the requirements of a dynamic retail business.

  • Analysis of existing merchandising systems to understand the mission critical business processes in our custom and packaged merchandising systems, as well as, data integrations.
  • Deep dive into issues with data integration between systems
  • Perform end to end analysis for requested system changes or issue resolution
  • Suggests systems changes for application enhancements or problem resolution
  • Extract data, report creation and analyze system for ERP solutions
  • Perform as a liaison between functional teams, application support, application development and DBA teams on system issues, enhancements and projects
  • Query creation in multiple database environments
  • Identify and drive process improvements.
  • Ensure change management and quality assurance practices are understood, adhered to, and leveraged to enhance system health and quality.
  • Ensure that enterprise-level systems comply with corporate security policies.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of periodic system updates and/or new system implementations.
  • Coordinate external and internal teams to manage issues and drive day-to-day operations.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to provide integration between merchandising applications and other internally developed or packaged solutions.
  • Ensure systems documentation and knowledge-base is up to date and current.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in IS, CS or related field of study, and/or eight (8) years’ equivalent work experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience interpreting business and technical requirements.
  • Experience effectively communicating with corporate leadership and translating technological solutions into non-technical language.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, data modeling, relational database design and data architecture.
  • Familiarity with risk management as it relates to the implementation and integration of enterprise-level business systems.
  • Ability to quickly understand and adapt to the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Retail ERP, WMS integration and EDI experience is required.
  • Experience with AS/400 and IBM DB2 is a plus.
